Free Online Typing Speed Test

This typing test measures words per minute (WPM) and accuracy in 15, 30 or 60 seconds. Type as much of the shown text as you can before time runs out. WPM is calculated as correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes — the standard formula used by most typing tests. Wrong characters are highlighted red; your accuracy is the share of correctly pressed keys.

What is a Good Typing Speed?

The average person types around 40 WPM. 60–70 WPM is above average for office work, 80+ is professional level, and 100+ WPM is exceptional — top typists reach 120–150. Accuracy above 95% matters more than raw speed: a 100 WPM typist at 80% accuracy spends more time fixing errors than a 70 WPM typist at 99%.

How to Improve Your Typing Speed

Use all ten fingers and keep your hands in home position (ASDF / JKL;). Practice daily short sessions — consistency beats marathon practice. Focus on accuracy first; speed follows naturally. Touch typing — looking at the screen, not the keyboard — typically adds 10–20 WPM within a few weeks of practice.

Typing Test FAQ

What is WPM? Words per minute — the number of five-character words you type per minute. Does this test store my data? No — only your best score is saved in your browser. Why did my WPM drop? A longer test (60s) usually scores lower than 15s because fatigue and longer text average out your speed — that's normal. Can I share my result? Yes — the share button copies a message with your score so you can challenge friends.
